Non-fungible tokens (NFTs) from some of the most well-known blockchain networks for cryptocurrency art are heading to Instagram, according to the unveiling of a pilot on Monday.
NFT connectors for Ethereum, Polygon, Solana, and Flow are being considered by Meta's social media powerhouse.
The majority of digital collectible transactions occur on such networks, with Ethereum and its Bored Apes leading the race in terms of market capitalization.
The pilot will involve a small number of NFT enthusiasts from the United States. However, it is unclear if NFTs from all four chains would be supported in the launch.
Instagram will not charge users for publishing and sharing NFTs, like Twitter did for its hexagonal NFT profile photos in January, according to CoinDesk. Instagram plans to enable well-known cryptocurrency wallets like MetaMask.
Users will be able to establish NFT ownership, display them on their profiles, and tag the artists who made them by plugging in their wallets.
During a conversation with businessman Daymond John at the South by Southwest (SXSW) festival in Austin, Texas in March, Zuckerberg claimed that Instagram will add NFTs to the platform. He hadn't said anything explicit at the time, though.
