MetaMask announced it had made updates to its products’ use license. In line with an official press-release by MetaMask, the new updates won’t have any impact on all end-users, most application developers and non-profits and will be available completely free for those groups.
The company clarified that it might continue publishing and iterating upon the wallet provider API within the public sphere, ensuring a widely cross-compatible ecosystem of apps. It added it might remain committed to publishing all code within a public repository.
MetaMask For Commercial Purposes
In line with MetaMask, developers who copy, modify, or fork the MetaMask codebase for commercial use, are invited to sign a proper commercial agreement with MetaMask.
“For example, if you’ve copied MetaMask & use it commercially to an audience larger than 10k monthly active users, you might be able to enter into a proper commercial agreement,” the company added.
MetaMask justified this step, adding that so as to continue offering high-quality products within the future, it had been necessary to get fair compensation that might allow them to continue and develop.
It is worth noting that MetaMask launched the 8th update of its Ethereum wallet earlier in the month of July, that incorporates variety of latest features like enhanced privacy control and a new account-login system.
