In line with a recent official survey conducted by Huobi traders, 45% of Bitcoin Traders consider time horizons over one year, with 12.5% adding that they’re willing to hold their assets for over four years for a return on their investment. This seems to contradict the widely accepted view that the majority of cryptocurrency investors are just there to form quick buck.
When asked which asset they think to hold for the longest, it’s no surprise that 69% said it was Bitcoin [BTC]. Despite the overwhelming majority of respondents belonging to the 26 to 50 age range, most of the respondents have over 3 years of investment experience.
Moreover, above half of the surveyed individuals have an annual income of $10k or below. Though this might seem low, we should always note that the survey happened within the “emerging markets” consistent with Huobi, where this level of income might not necessarily be considered low. Another vital consideration is that solely 491 individuals actually responded to the survey, thus it’s unclear how representative this sampling is.
It appears that there’s a shift happening within the way cryptocurrency is being perceived by both retail & professional investors – from a get rich quick scheme to a more long-term game.
