The co-founder of the world’s leading smart contract platform, Vitalik Buterin, the Ethereum blockchain, has officially become a cryptocurrency billionaire.
Buterin’s public Ethereum address, which he described as his main wallet earlier in 2018, has hit $1 Bln on its balance following Ether’s meteoric rise over a $3k price mark earlier today on Monday.
At the time of reporting, the address holds around 333,500 Ethereum [ETH] now worth $1.029 Bln, consistent with on-chain data from Etherscan, as ETH over quadrupled in value from around $700 USD at the starting of this year in 2021.
At the reporting time, the world’s largest altcoin is trading at $3,144 USD, up 8.6% over the past 24 hours, with gains of 36% over the past week, consistent with data from CoinMarketCap.
In line with some online crypto players, 27-year-old Buterin now might be the youngest self-made billionaire within the cryptocurrency ecosystem.
Amid surging prices, Buterin has been generous together with his cryptocurrency holdings. Earlier in April, Vitalik Buterin donated 100 Ethereum and 100 Maker [MKR] tokens to a Coronavirus outbreak relief fund for India.
