A recent cybersecurity report published by Cyfirma, warned a few massive phishing campaign which will be launched by the North Korean hacker group, Lazarus, within this month very soon. The campaign will allegedly target six countries along with over 5 Mln businesses and individuals.
In line with the report revealed on 18th June, Lazarus will subject Singapore, Japan, India, U.K., South Korea , & U.S to a huge planned phishing campaign. Hackers will reportedly plan to take benefit of individuals receiving payments established by several countries in an effort to mitigate the COVID-19 crisis.
Phishing Campaign & Crypto Scams
Lazarus seems to be impersonating as legal authorities accounts using fake emails. They would ask recipients to go to fraudulent websites that will ask for money and then save their personal data. within the past, the North Korean hackers have preferred to be paid in crypto assets.
There are not any additional details about the precise methods Lazarus group will use to collect money from their victims.
While adding further, a Cyfirma’s spokesperson said:
“Recently on 1st June, the platform picked up an early indicator from Korean-speaking community discussing a folder called ‘Health-Problem-2020’ & that was when we uncovered the whole campaign targeting the USA, UK, Japan, South Korea, India and Singapore. This global phishing campaign is well-planned across all fronts, leveraging social engineering to lure individuals and businesses into divulging personal and financial information. Citizens and business owners are in desperate need of those government fiscal support packages and chances of them falling prey to the present phishing attack is extremely high.”
Warned About The UpComing Threat
The cybersecurity firm clarifies that they have not yet identified URLs for the phishing sites found within the email templates gathered during their research, but expect that such information is going to be revealed soon. They also state that the govt’s of the targeted countries are warned about the upcoming Lazarus campaign.
Also earlier, North Korean leader, Kim Jong-un, reportedly encouraged Lazarus to steal crypto assets along with Bitcoin [BTC] using phishing scams. Sources indicate that the country has ramped up these efforts to stop a financial meltdown within the ongoing coronavirus outbreak.
