One of the largest crypto investment platform in Brazil ‘Atlas’ has been recently hacked. However, the company announced that its user funds have not been harmed but over 2.5 lakh customers database has been leaked for now.
A YouTube channel ‘Invesitmentos Digitais’ firstly reported this hacking mentioning the leaked includes user’s balances, email’s, names and even phone numbers registered on the platform. The leaked information shows around $40 Mln deposits of different customers.
A local news source ‘Portal do Bitcoin’ confirmed this leaked information as true. Among the leaked credentials, the details of the CEO of Stratum coinBR also got out.
Acknowledging the incident, Atlas issued a statement revealing the launch of an investigation with the concerned authorities. It additional that though hackers managed to leak user information, no funds were hacked. Mentioning further, the company said:
“We would denote that this wasn’t a bitcoin theft or a violation of our accounts within the exchanges. However, our client base was exposed. At the time of the incident, we tend to took immediate steps to safeguard the information along with the passwords and personal keys encrypted.”
Atlas also stated that the firm would be adopting new updated security protocols and wouldn’t send users any email concerning their information for next few hours, though it’s observing affected accounts for now. Account withdrawals are also restricted until further next notice.
As per a web blog post by ‘Medium’ the company presently employs over a hundred people and manages over more than $30 Mln in assets. A simulator on Altas site claims a that a $1,000 USD investment would yield two percent gains in barely fifteen days, while 40 % during a year.
