BestChange.ru Exchange Blocked By Russian Authorities – Illegal As Per New Crypto Bill Passed.

Leading cryptocurrency website within Russia, BestChange.ru, has been blocked by the local authorities after finally passing the country’s cryptocurrency legislation bill.

An aggregator of about 400 native cryptocurrency exchange websites, BestChange.ru website was blocked by Russian telecom regulator Roskomnadzor earlier on 26th Aug.

Although the website still remains available via VPN services & mirror websites like BestChange.net, consistent with a popup announcement on BestChange.ru.

In line with an announcement on native social media VK.com, BestChange.ru website was blocked alongside a bunch of other industry websites for “mentions of Bitcoin cryptocurrency.”

In line with the public court records cited by BestChange, Roskomnadzor blocked BestChange.ru alongside websites like cryptowikipedia.ru and coinpost.ru. Consistent with the data, the websites were “offering to purchase electronic currency Bitcoin and certain products using this currency.” As cryptos like Bitcoin are prohibited from getting used for the payment mode in Russia, the distribution of data about these services by the websites is against the law, the court records adds.

BestChange.ru is seemingly one of the leading cryptocurrency websites in operation within Russia. Consistent with data from website analytics tool SimilarWeb, BestChange has been steadily growing this year to hit 3.3 Mln users earlier in the month of July this year. The website delivers an inventory of cryptocurrency exchange services, additionally to providing verification & ratings for every platform.

BestChange.ru website has been blocked multiple times before also. As reported earlier by Russian press agency RBC, the website was primarily blocked back earlier in 2017. The website although remained available via the utilization of services like VPN, the report adds. Roskomnadzor reportedly blocked BestChange.ru again later in 2019, arguing that distribution of data about Bitcoin “contradicts Federal laws and is prohibited on the territory of Russia.”

The news comes shortly after Russia finally passed its first legislation associated with the cryptocurrency industry. As President Putin signed the bill into the law on 31st July, accepting payments in cryptos like Bitcoin [BTC] are now illegal in Russia starting from January 2021.
